SkallaGrimNillson has uploaded a great video about violence in video games in which he tackles the heated debate of whether violent video games cause violence in real life.
In an interesting debate for a variety of reasons. Firstly, what exactly is a violent video game?
Sure, games like Grand Theft Auto V are seen as violent because they depict people being attacked. But what about Mario? Mario’s constantly jumping on turtles and kicking them around. Surely that’s bully animals, but no one complains about that.
And what about the idea that violent video games cause people to be violent in real life? If that’s the case, how exactly do they train violence? Violence in games happens when you press a button. So what is this violence training? Are we being trained to hurt people by pressing buttons? I guess that might work if we all had phasers, but outside of Star Trek where’s that going to work?
