About Lord of the Rings Online

Lord of the Rings online is a massively multiplayer online role playing game for PC set in Tolkien’s fantasy world of Middle-Earth. Made by video game developer Turbine, LOTRO is a free to play MMORPG with subscription options that grant the player certain perks. The gameplay is of the typical MMORPG genre style. You play an avatar which you move around the fantasy world engaging and interacting with other characters, both player characters and NPCs. As you play your character will gradually become more powerful and you will move up the levels. Leveling requires gaining experience points through player VS environment combat and the more you level up the more powers you will unlock.

LOTRO’s storyline is told through a series of books which includes “Chapters” which are essentially quests. As you would expect, all the magic and fantasy of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings gooks are represented in the game, including wizards (though they are no player controlled). As you play you’ll gain access to magical powers like healing which are based around the lore of the books. The one difference between LOTRO and other MMORPGs is that health is instead represented by “morale” which you can increase though rest, food, music and battle cries. There is also a solid crafting system which focuses on cooking and farming.

LOTRO takes one of the best genres of games and adds Tolkien’s epic fantasy world to create an awesome gaming experience. For more great games like Lord of the Rings Online, see our list below.
