Bows are the most beautiful weapons in gaming. And in case our showcase of Lara Croft with her bow in Tomb Raider didn’t make that clear, we now turn to the hypest game of the year: Assassin’s Creed 3.
There are some gorgeous graphics on display in Assassin’s Creed 3. Not only does Connor look like a slick, ass-kicking machine, but those animators over at Ubisoft have used the natural beauty of the bow to create some extremely expressive visuals, the sort of visuals that could not be created with any other weapon. Let’s take a look.

Here Connor leaps upwards to fire the bow. It’s a nice directorial shot, the camera being set beneath Connor to make him appear bigger and more powerful. [/wpcol_3quarter] [wpcol_1quarter_end id=”” class=”” style=””] [/wpcol_1quarter_end]
Power is not the main characteristic of this image, however; beauty is, and it’s created by the bow. The symmetry formed by the bow’s limbs and string, together with the delicate line the arrow draws from Connor’s eye serve to give this image undeniable elegance, showing why bows are so beautiful.
As for this image. It’s all power. The closed fists and shadowed face of Connor make him appear both mysterious and extremely powerful. Then there’s that killer line that the arrow forms along the centre of the picture. It creates a powerful sense of direction, almost giving movement to the image.
Finally, a much softer and more subtle Assassin’s Creed 3 graphic reveals how the bow captures a sense of natural beauty and also of culture.
I can’t think of any other weapon from gaming that could sit in such a delicate landscape graphics without looking out of place. The bow shares the same timeless quality as the landscape. It’s somehow familiar and unimposing. Somehow, the bow feels less like a tool and more like an extension of the body, a part of nature itself.
And that’s how Assassin’s Creed 3 showcases bows as the most beautiful weapon in gaming.
