Best indie Games of 2012 Part 2

Continuing the Indie Game Awards 2012, we now come to the top 5 indie games, featuring Resonance, Frog Fractions, Lone Survivors, The Sea Will Claim Everything and Faster Than Light.

The Top 5 Indie Games of 2012

5. Resonance (XII Games) [Windows, paid]

Resonance is of the exquisite blend of games that prove the innovation that be achieved in the medium. It’s a sci-fi, point-and-click adventure game full of brilliant puzzles, multiple playable characters and an intriguing plot.

4. Frog Fractions (Twin Beard Studios) [browser, free]

Frog Fractions set the internet on fire back in October, becoming possibly the most played fraction-teaching video game of all time (I could be wrong about that though. .  .)

Frog Fractions does a heck of a lot more than simply teaching players fractions, though. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say that there aren’t many fraction-related games that end in insect XXX scenes.

3. Lone Survivor (Windows, Mac)

Lone Survivor is a unique survival horror game with multiple endings.  It’s also possibly the most ambient title of 2012, you play a man in a post-apocalyptic world in which you appear to be the last person alive. If that’s not bleak enough, you’re also low on supplies. You must find what you need to survive from among the wreckage.

2. The Sea Will Claim Everything (Jonas Kyratzes) [Windows, paid]

Like video game music? Then you’re going to love The Sea Will Claim Everything; it’s soundtrack is masterful. Love unique, cutesy, story-book visuals? Then this will make you all doughy eyed. Then there’s the brilliant characters, walls of text and some great brain-teasing puzzles. The Sea Will Claim Everything is one of those games that simply needs to be played.

1: FTL: Faster Than Light (Windows, Mac)

Call me an old fuddy-duddy fool, but I’m not a fan of Kickstarter. One game that makes me question that stance, however, is Faster Than Light, a simulation game that will kick your ass and leave you crawling back for more. It’s complex and challenging yet remains highly playable thanks to perfect pacing. It makes your brain work overtime and makes you earn every success. It also never stops changing, meaning you’ll be coming back for more time and time again. Faster Than Light is a worthy winner of ARoleModel.com’s Best Indie Game of 2012 award. But you don’t need me to tell you that, go play it. . . now!
